Lucinda Hale died in a motor vehicle accident on Saturday evening about 3 weeks ago, the same day Iris Genevieve was born. Jacque adopted two girls as a single school teacher in Nebraska. Sheri came from a home in Omaha, was 7 years old and had big leg braces due to aspastic cerebral palsy. Meghann came later and is 13 years younger than Sheri. Sheri married George Hale in Concordia KS and they eventually moved to Marionville MO, a small town between Springfield and Aurora on US 60 in southern Missouri. Their oldest, James, is about 20 and Lucinda was 18. She had been to the Junior Prom and had a boyfriend. Blossom, the youngest is 12 and was riding with Lucinda to the movies in Republic when the car went off the road, flipped several times and ended up on the passenger side back on the road. Even though both girls were in seat belts, the drivers door latch failed and the door came open, eventually being torn off. Lucinda’s injuries may have come from the door flailing or after it was lost, she may have been partially out of the car as it flipped and rolled. When it stopped, Lucinda was on top of Blossom, and with all the blood, Blossom could not find the cell phone to call for help. In a short time a passenger car and motorcycle stopped to help and called 911. Both girls were lifeflighted to Springfield St. Johns. That Blossom went in the first helicopter may indicate judgement of the triage personnel on the scene concerning the extent of Lucinda’s injuries. We later learned that she had a punctured lung, fractured pelvis, compound leg fractures, internal bleeding and massive head trauma. Blossom received a neck abrasion from the seatbelt but was otherwise uninjured. Because she is so quiet, it is difficult to judge the extent of her psychological trauma. I will post photos of the two girls as soon as I can.
