How long does it take to cross the border?

It varies depending on which country you are entering, and whether you are driving or walking. It’s much quicker to enter Mexico: you pay the toll to the city of Eagle Pass and drive across. There’s either no line or one or two vehicles ahead of you at the two toll booths. You drive across the 1/4 mile bridge in 2 minutes and then enter Mexico, usually without inspection.
One can walk across the bridge in about five minutes, and there’s no wait or inspection entering Mexico. Entering the U.S., you usually wait anywhere between 5 minutes and over 1 hour, depending on the traffic which varies with the time of day, day of week and holidays (Christmas is the busiest). Usually the waiting line for pedestrians is less than 15 minutes.
